How structural racism works

How structural racism works

Reflection:

In the video she contracts two term and unites them within one category

The video starts explaining about the idea of Structural racism being a systems that people make and are used to discriminate against others because of their race.

(Una organization or protesta people can start to discriminarte por cualquier razor asi sea por tu racé )

She goes on talks about the idea of “color blind” basically not wanting to pay attention to anything that promotes any program, organization or idea of racism

The idea of colorblind ideology focuses on the belief that race no longer matters and “I don’t see color”.

Structural racism continues to separate communities of color from access to better opportunities and progress by making it difficult for people of color to secure quality education, jobs, healthcare, and equal treatment in the criminal justice system.

It fosters discrimination that provides limitation in the ability to access power.

there are five key areas where racism can take place and those are in media, wealth, criminal justice, education, and housing. With all these areas being stated there is no safe space for people and that is just not right.

Racism still plagues the education system. While attending school in previous years something that always fought my attention is the idea of the school system that if we don’t know the language we don’t know the topic such as just because I don’t speak the same language doesn’t mean I don’t understand the “ A,E,I,O,U” or even my “ABC” if feels more like most people have blinders on. I have heard and experience kids bully others because of skin color or backgrounds , and call people or treat them a different way. Kids of color need a better education, inner city schools need to be fixed, especially the public schools. Going back into the video they talk about  assumptions being  the first step towards racism happen because if you think something about someone you aren't going to give them a chance.

  1. Hi Scar, I loved that you were able to put in your own connection from when you were in school into your blog. I also agree that making assumptions is the first step to racism and believe it or not we all do it whether we realize it or not.
